Factory manualTaken from a Mazda factory workshop manual, with page citation.
Procedure
Warm engine to normal operating temperature with fully charged battery. Begin with MT in Neutral or AT in P, electrical loads off, and cooling fan stopped. Read RPM PID using factory-compatible diagnostic equipment. Read after the temporary speed drop when loads are first switched on. Check electrical loads (headlights, blower above first position, cooling fan and rear defroster on), power steering (fully turned), and A/C (A/C and blower on) separately. Use N or P for this record.
Applies to
- NB 2001–2005 (BP-Z3, 4AT) — Other years inferred within NB2 non-turbo family from actual 2003/2005 factory evidence.
- Verified in: 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata Workshop Manual (electronic manual capture); 2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata Workshop Manual (electronic manual capture)
