Procedure
Set the synchronizer ring squarely in the gear, then measure clearance to the gear flank around the circumference. Inspect teeth and taper surface for wear or cracks. These limits apply to the NA8 five-speed inspection, not the Y16M-D six-speed. Second gear uses the separate double-cone synchronizer assembly inspection. Display metric values under the metric-first policy; printed inch minimum is 0.032.
Applies to
- NA 1994–1997 (BP, 5MT) — 1995–1997 inferred from 1994 factory evidence; actual-year verification is separate.
